Cimarron School

Cimarron Lodge #37 first held their meetings in the Otho F. Matkin Building, (Cimarron Hotel), in 1912. They moved to the Brooks Mercantile building, in the early 1920’s. In May of 1924 they were ask to vacate the Brooks Building and they then began holding their meetings on the upper floor of the old school building in August of 1924. In July of 1933 they moved to the Lett’s Building, once the Turner Manufacturing Co. They continued meeting in the Turner Mfg. Co. building until 1943. They then moved back to the Brooks Mercantile building for one year before finally purchasing the current lodge building from the family of Jesus Cherrette. This building was built approximately in 1870. It was used as the Colfax County Courthouse from 1872 until the county seat was moved to Springer, N.M. in 1882. In April of 2017 the lodge building was sold to the C.S. Cattle Co. (aka CS Ranch). The C.S. Cattle Co. are the proprietors of the Old Mill Museum, and have plans to make the building an annex of the museum. On Sept 10, 2019 Cimarron Lodge #37 held its final meeting and on October 3, 2019 Cimarron Lodge #37 along with the charter of Vermejo Lodge #36 consolidated with Gate City Lodge #11.
